How to Keep Online Hackers Away

HTL London

When it comes to protecting yourself online, you can never be too cautious. In today’s world, there are countless ways for hackers to tap into your network and steal vital information. While it may seem that these hackers are impossible to keep out, there are many steps you can take to ensure your security online. When you follow these guidelines, you will make it much harder for anyone to gain access to your personal information.

1.     Update Your Account Information

Keeping your current phone number, address, and other information up to date will help you note any suspicious activity as soon as it occurs. Banks and credit card companies base your activity off of your current location so, if they start seeing charges hours away from your residence, they will freeze your card until they can confirm it with you. They also need to be able to contact you in light of any strange transactions, so a current phone number will be needed.

2.     Manage Your Passwords

Most people know the importance of protecting their various accounts with strong passwords. Unfortunately, many choose to stick with passwords that are simple and easy to remember. This makes it much easier for hackers to get into an account and take any information they wish. You can keep your passwords strong and varied without having to worry about forgetting every time you go to log on. There are programs that store all of your passwords for you, so you only need to remember the one password you use to enter that program itself. Download one today!

3.     Check Your Privacy Settings

It is always a good idea to double check that your privacy settings are as strict as you want them to be. Often times, people do not realize when their settings are weak, meaning any one has access to what they post. Stop potential hackers from getting your information today by keeping your account as closed off as possible.

4.     Back Up Your Documents

Perform regular back-ups on your various devices to ensure that all of your information will be saved, should a virus or some type of malware erase everything. If you have important documents, papers, or work-related information stored on your system, you may regret putting off a back-up. New scams circulate every day, so always be prepared

5.     Be On Guard

Always be cautious when opening strange e-mails or accessing a new site. Until you are certain it is from a source you can trust, it is best to leave any links you receive unopened. Never give away information on an unsecure page and be wary when making purchases online. It never hurts to be overly protective of your information and you may end up saving yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.
