'ANGRY' BIRD & 'HAPPY' ROVIO ~ CHAI WITH STRATEGIST
I am a Tech. Lead in an IT organization. We do IT service projects and also into few products development. We have a marketing team to promote our products in social media. But the challenge is, our products are not getting much visibility and the download count is also less. Our management is pushing us to create some innovative ideas for products. I don’t know how to create innovative ideas in parallel to our committed official tasks! Can you help me?
I would like to share a short story of a team. 3 guys started a small company in year 2003. Their focus was fully into game development – primarily on mobile devices. They made 51 games in their organization, and every game had innovative ideas – but in 2009, their revenue was not enough to expectations. So they went almost broke. Finally, they decided to make one more game – and sketched 10 ideas a day. One day, they sketched an idea – and it clicked, they released it in December 2009 to IOS devices. Over 12 million copies of that game have been purchased from Apple's App Store, which has prompted the company to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, including the Android, Symbian and Windows Phone operating systems. The company name is ROVIO Entertainment and the game is ‘Angry Birds’. The success of ‘Angry birds’ game is combination of addictive gameplay, comical style, and low price. Innovative ideas are not a desk Job. You have to look around you and see, what makes people to do interesting things in regular life. Think simple things, in out of box way – go out from regular thought process. Thinking innovation is a large subject, particularly for games and mobile apps. let’s talk about it more in near future.
